Why Hema Sounds?

In Sanskrit ‘Hema’ means golden/beautiful and it is my youngest daughter’s middle name. In Greek it also means blood. I like the idea that blood is the life-force that runs through our whole body and feeds every organ just like sound vibrations. At Hema Sounds I use instrumental and natural sounds therapeutically to offer relief from stress and pain, to kickstart self-healing or to offer an opportunity to be kind to yourself and enjoy a well-being treat.

Science and Sound

Researchers such as Koenig and his colleagues (as far back as 1954 and 1960), found similarities between the earth’s ionosphere resonance and human brain activity/behaviour. Our planet has a type of rhythmic heartbeat called the ‘Schumann Resonance’ (named after Winfried Otto Schumann in honour of his work on global resonances in the mid-1950s). NASA monitors this Schumann Resonance (approximately 7-8Hz) to understand better the weather and formation of planets in the Universe.

Working With Intention

For the real magic to happen with sound, we work together to create an open mind and a hopeful, positive intention for the session. I help you to verbalise and activate the change you desire through all your senses. When we add these ingredients to the sound vibration medicine pot, you are more likely to experience change.

About Me

As a specialist teacher and education consultant, I worked with children and young people for 30 years. As part of my personal self-care, a good friend suggested I try a sound bath following a period of grief and stress. It had a profound effect on me and inspired me to explore how sound might benefit the children and adults I was working with at the time. I decided to train to be a Sound Therapist with the Sound Healing Academy, achieving my diploma in 2020.

By taking that leap of faith and following my intuition, I have found a working life filled with interest, positivity and transformation.

How does it work?

You can email or phone me to arrange a taster, an hour or a 90 minute session. You can also book a group session.

Prior to your first session, I will send you a client information form to fill in .

As part of the first session we will explore what aspects of your physical, emotional or spiritual wellbeing you most want support with. However, if you prefer not to talk much, it is always an option to just experience the sounds. It can be a bespoke experience where you choose the instruments you would like to experience or you can leave me to choose. You can sit, stand or walk around - whatever you are most comfortable doing.

You should wear loose, comfortable clothing (no belts please). After the sound treatment is delivered we reflect together on your experience and I make recommendations for how you might include healing sounds in your life more often. Plan to have a quiet time after the sound treatment with no rushing about or using heavy machinery.

How do I get the most out of it?

  • At least an hour prior to your appointment eat a light meal.

  • Avoid stimulants and alcohol both before and after your treatment

  • Make time to relax and integrate the full effect of the therapy afterwards

  • Have regular treatments as part of your ongoing self-care is the best way to keep the mind and body balanced and healthy

  • Between sessions it is recommended to keep a diary and
plan time for a daily sound based self-care moment or two. Just like daily medication works in conventional medicine, daily exposure to healing sounds has a cumulative beneficial effect on your nervous system and brainwaves

How many sessions will I need?

I recommend 4-6 sessions to see significant and long-lasting change especially for chronic conditions. This allows time to create and embed new neural pathways in your brain allowing more positive responses and habits to develop and enhancing wellbeing.

What does a group sound bath look like?

Great question! I have made a short video to show you.
